Northumberland County will operate a warming room in Cobourg for a second winter after town council approved an amendment to its Emergency Care Centre bylaw.
The warming room will operate Nov. 1 through April 15 at the former Kraft research building at 600 William St., replacing last winter’s location at the county administration building.
County CAO Dan Borowec said the new site provides greater security and control. He stressed the facility will offer warmth, not overnight accommodation, and is not considered a permanent solution.
The temporary bylaw exemption allows the county to operate the warming room alongside Cobourg’s two licensed emergency care facilities.
