Four years after Madison Chard was found dead near the Ganaraska River in Port Hope, her family continues to seek answers about what happened to the 29-year-old.
Chard was reported missing in 2022 and was found May 19 near the river’s east bank. An autopsy determined she died of hypothermia, with a lethal amount of fentanyl and some cocaine in her system.
The Port Hope Police Service and Ontario Provincial Police investigated but found no evidence of foul play. Chard’s family has questioned the investigation and filed a formal police complaint, which was informally resolved with an agreement that police will consider any new information.
Her parents say rumours continue to circulate in the community, but they believe someone may have information that could help explain the circumstances surrounding their daughter’s death. The family hopes renewed attention to the case will encourage anyone with information to come forward.
