Ontario is providing more than $153,000 to support economic development initiatives in Northumberland County and surrounding communities.
The funding comes through the province’s Rural Ontario Development program, which supports rural businesses, municipalities and organizations working to strengthen local economies. Northumberland-Peterborough South MPP David Piccini announced the funding during a visit to Oat and Mill’s manufacturing facility in Colborne.
Three projects in the riding are receiving support, including $143,169 for Port Hope’s Building Resilience initiative, which focuses on manufacturing and energy-sector readiness. Oat and Mill is receiving $10,000 to update marketing materials, while Clarington’s Orono economic development strategy is receiving $13,974.
The province says the program’s first intake is providing more than $5.5 million for 116 projects across rural Ontario. Officials say the investments are intended to help attract businesses, support job creation and prepare communities for long-term economic growth.
