Northumberland OPP have charged a North York man after officers seized approximately 650,000 unmarked cigarettes during a vehicle stop in Port Hope last week.
Police were called shortly after 2 p.m. Sept. 21 to assist a Ministry of Transportation officer conducting a traffic stop on Telephone Road. Following an investigation, officers seized the cigarettes from the vehicle.
A 48-year-old North York man faces charges of trafficking in contraband tobacco, possessing unmarked cigarettes for sale, possessing unmarked cigarettes and driving a vehicle with cannabis readily available.
The accused is scheduled to appear in Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in December.
