The Cobourg Cougars marked National Day for Truth and Reconciliation with a special game-night ceremony Sept. 28 at the Cobourg Community Centre.
Former Cobourg resident and Six Nations member Bob Watts took part in the opening ceremonies. Watts was a key negotiator in the Indian Residential School Settlement Agreement and helped establish the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
The Cougars wore special orange jerseys featuring a Wampum Belt design in recognition of residential school survivors and those who died.
Part owner and general manager Ryan Ramsay said it was the first time the team had incorporated Truth and Reconciliation into its game-day activities.
