The Cobourg Police Service Board says it is pursuing a forensic audit to address serious financial concerns within the police service.
The Board has completed a budget review, shared its findings with Ontario’s Inspectorate of Policing, consulted the OPP and requested a detailed review by the Town Treasurer.
Cobourg Mayor Lucas Cleveland says he was unaware of the process and has criticized the Board over what he describes as a lack of transparency.
Cleveland has called a special council meeting for 4 p.m. Tuesday, seeking the release of further information about police finances and oversight.
The Board says its actions are aimed at strengthening accountability and maintaining public confidence.
