Six people are facing charges after Ontario Provincial Police dismantled an illegal cannabis growing operation in Greater Napanee and seized more than $7.9 million worth of cannabis.
Police launched an investigation in September into suspected illegal production at a property on County Road 12. A search warrant was executed Sept. 24, resulting in the seizure of 5,260 cannabis plants, $1,900 in cash and a Lexus SUV valued at about $18,000.
Four people were arrested at the property, while two others were apprehended after fleeing on foot. The six accused face charges under the Cannabis Act related to cultivating illicit cannabis and possessing cannabis for distribution.
They are scheduled to appear in Napanee court Dec. 15.
Police also identified fire, electrical and property safety concerns, leading to a disconnection of hydro service.
The investigation involved consultation with the Canada Border Services Agency.
