Kilometers for Kids returns to downtown Cobourg on Saturday, Oct. 17, raising funds for Rebound Child & Youth Services Northumberland.
The family-friendly event begins with check-in at 8:30 a.m., followed by opening ceremonies at 9:15 a.m. Participants can walk, run, cycle or use a wheelchair along one- or five-kilometre routes, with the event starting at 9:30 a.m.
Sam Rockbrune, executive director, says the organization provides preventative programming to support children, youth and families in Northumberland County and has been doing so for more than 30 years.
Activities in Victoria Park include pumpkin painting, while participants can enjoy a complimentary peameal sandwich and a drink. Prizes will also be awarded, including recognition for top fundraisers and the best Halloween costume.
Rockbrune says the event has been held annually for 13 years, with this being the second year since it returned to the fall. All donations go toward funding the programs offered, making this a very important event on the organization’s calendar.
Rebound says it supported more than 1,800 young people in the past year. This year’s event has a fundraising goal of $7,000. Rockbrune says the gap between the number of people in need and those who receive help is shocking.
The event begins at 9:15 a.m. at Victoria Hall. Registration and donation information is available at raceroster.com or through Rebound’s website at rcys.ca.
