The Canadian Armed Forces says 27 members remain in hospital following a fire at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright in Alberta on Oct. 17. Another 12 members have been released from hospital as recovery efforts continue.
About 28 civilian medical specialists in burn care were flown from Toronto to Edmonton aboard a military Hercules aircraft to help treat the injured. The military thanked health-care workers, first responders and the provinces of Alberta and Ontario for their support.
The CAF says the 3rd Battalion, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, will continue training while support services assist injured members, their families and others affected by the incident.
Military police are investigating independently, while a separate board of inquiry is being established to examine the circumstances surrounding the fire.
