A 31-year-old Greater Toronto Area woman has been charged in connection with an alleged cryptocurrency scam that cost a 76-year-old Cobourg resident about $13,000.
Cobourg police say their Criminal Investigation Bureau began investigating the fraud in October 2025 after the senior was tricked into investing money in cryptocurrency.
Swena Arora was arrested Oct. 23 and charged with fraud over $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. She was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
Police encourage scam victims to report incidents to the service and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
