Township of Hamilton voters have returned most of the existing council, with Patricia McCourt reclaiming a seat in Monday’s municipal election.
Mayor Scott Jibb and Deputy Mayor Larry Williamson were acclaimed, while councillors John Davison and Bruce Buttar won re-election. McCourt returns to council as Coun. Mark Lovshin retires after 25 years of service.
Davison led the councillor candidates with 1,633 votes, followed by Buttar with 1,457 and McCourt with 1,375. Jay Chatten received 1,234 votes, while Robert MacArthur garnered 789.
McCourt has identified affordable housing as a priority, pointing to the need for accessible homes for seniors and more options for young people who struggle to remain in the community.
Buttar has highlighted the proposed Wesleyville nuclear project, saying local municipalities must be consulted on housing, infrastructure and environmental concerns.
Voter turnout was about 23.7 per cent, down from 27.1 per cent in the previous election.
The new council is scheduled to be inaugurated Nov. 17 at the municipal office, with the ceremony also livestreamed on the township’s YouTube channel.
