Residents interested in volunteering with the Ontario Provincial Police will have an opportunity to learn more about the Auxiliary program during an information session in Colborne on Nov. 12 at 7 p.m.
Const. James Clarke of the Northumberland OPP says the session is a great opportunity to learn more about the program and determine whether it might be the right fit for those interested in getting involved in their community.
The program offers community-minded individuals a chance to work alongside regular OPP officers while helping promote public safety and community engagement.
Auxiliary members assist with a variety of activities, including community events, crime prevention initiatives, public education, traffic safety programs and ceremonial functions. You don’t necessarily need to want to become a police officer, says Clarke, but you must be community minded.
The information session will provide details about the program, volunteer responsibilities, eligibility requirements and the recruitment process.
More information about volunteer opportunities and the application process is available through the Ontario Provincial Police website.
