Northumberland County reports new “conserved areas” of the County Forest.
440 hectares of the 2225 hectare forest have been recently designated as conserved areas by Ontario Parks.
Conserved lands are essential to preserving ecologically sensitive habitats and/or species of concern.
County Warden, Bob Crate said in a release that, this is a great indication that we are on track to ensuring the long-term preservation of this community asset for future generations.
The federal government is looking to protect 25 per cent of the country’s lands and waters by 2025.
