Brighton residents have another opportunity next month to get rid of unwanted but still usable items, while keeping them out of landfill, too.
Back by popular demand, the Municipality of Brighton is hosting another Curbside Give-Away Days, starting on Friday, June 3 at 8 a.m. until Sunday, June 5 at 8 p.m. Usable items can be placed on the curb outside houses and everyone can check out the curbs in the neighbourhood of around Brighton for items that they might be interested in taking.
Ben Hagerman, the Municipality of Brighton’s manager of economic development and communications, said the ‘freecycling’ idea has been ‘fairly common’ in other municipalities, with Brighton council giving its approval for a Curbside Give-Away Days event last August. The initiative provided to be a hit with residents who either needed to purge some household items they no longer needed, while others have picked up a few things they can put to good use.
“We found this concept to be very popular in town. Doing one in spring maybe helps people feel a bit better about their spring cleaning. Maybe people coming through with cottages or campsite find they have some use for them,” said Hagerman.
He cautions residents to not put out items that would have negligible use to someone else and also reminds residents to take back inside anything on the curb that hasn’t gone to a good home by Sunday, June 5 at 8 p.m.
Residents are asked when placing items at the curbs to not block roadways, pedestrian or cycling traffic.
