The Northumberland Sleeping Cabins Collective plans to build the first six cabins before the end of January.
The sites in Cobourg and Port Hope are still being confirmed, but the grassroots group managed to fundraise 55 thousand dollars needed for the initial cabins and washroom trailer.
The collective is planning to build 10 to 12 eight foot by ten foot heated sleeping cabins as an emergency response to Cobourg and Port Hope’s homelessness crisis.
They spoke at Cobourg council last night, who agreed to a six month trial of having the cabins in the old arena parking lot.
