Lisa Voutt realizes her 20 year dream, opening a casual but elegant Trattoria in the heart of Colborne Village, called Pomona Ristorante, to showcase authentic Italian inspired foods.
Lisa told us about the inspiration for the name.
“I always knew that I wanted to open a restaurant, and after a visit to a museum in Boston and seeing a beautiful statue of Pomona, the goddess of bounty of harvest and orchards, who was depicted with an apron and a paring knife,” said Lisa Voutt. “I knew that would be the name of my future restaurant because it reminded me of grandmothers who always had aprons on, ready to prepare food after harvesting from their gardens.”
Voutt fondly remembers her Nonna’s teachings and how she was like the goddess of the fruit harvest, Pomona.
Her family located in Cramahe Township in 2016 and the restaurant in the winter of 2022.
Featuring recipes inspired by both her Italian grandmothers, Pomona Ristorante will recreate family favourites, using local and seasonal offerings.
“We have an amazing group of farmers who are helping us, and I have my wish lists in for the upcoming growing season,” added Voutt. “I am looking forward to dishes like stuffed zucchini flowers, and new bean and eggplant dishes.
Located in the heart of the village of Colborne, on the north side of the main street, Pomona Ristorante is a 43 King Street East (near the Colborne Art Gallery), in the small grey building next to Old St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church.
Reservations are recommended, Lisa and family are thrilled welcome you to their new 26 seat space and they are planning an outdoor patio towards the end of the summer.
“We have had such a great response and we are seeing people from across Northumberland County, from Brighton to Cobourg and beyond.”
