It’s something that has been going on for over 60 years, local community environmental activism at it’s most grass roots.
Volunteers come from all over, with family and friends, to help rainbow trout make their way to spawning grounds in the Baltimore/Balls Mill area.
Organizer Christine Clarke told us her grandfather and some friends started lifting fish back in the 60’s.
According to Clarke, the fish lift is something everyone from 7 to 70 can take part in.
Christine told us the more hands the merrier, and don’t forget your chest waders.
Due to forecasted rain for this weekend which can lead to high water levels which is unsafe for volunteers, the fish lift has been postponed to next Saturday.
Volunteers of all ages are invited to participate in the lift which will take place at the corner of Elgin and Ontario Streets on April 8th starting at 8:30 am.
Bring a net, your chest waders and some warm clothes and be prepared for a some family friendly fun.
