The newly formed Brighton Arts and Culture Council is organizing its first signature event in downtown Brighton called Art in the Park on August 5th.
President Des Rodrigues told us about restarting the Council after a ten-year hiatus.
Art is the Park will occur on August 5th from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm in Memorial Park. There will be 26 distinct artists there in booths selling their items, a live art demonstration, and children’s area and food venders too.
“This will become our annual, signature event,” said Rodrigues.
Des told us about the council’s first event.
The Downtown Business Improvement Area (DBIA) will also have activities on the sidewalk in the core to support this event.
To kick off this year’s event, Gerald McLaughlin, owner of the Orland Mill Gallery, a famous air-brush artist, is displaying an oversized shark exhibit in Memorial Park. This piece was previously displayed outside the Royal Alexander to draw attention to this year’s Art in the Park event.
According to Brighton Arts and Culture Council President Des Rodrigues they’re hoping you’ll mark the calendar every year for this event.
The Brighton Arts and Culture Council, which is about 50 members strong, is committed to promoting the arts and is working to become a not for profit and is open to artists of all disciplines. It is $50 a year to join, and this gives you a free booth at the Art in the Park event.
