Considerable damage was done by this morning’s fire at Beyond The Blue Box Thrift Store on Covert Street in Cobourg.
Fire chief Ellard Beaven tells us police on patrol sounded the alarm at around 03:30.
No one was injured. Power in the area is out which is affecting businesses including on the north side of King Street.
Chief Beaven says the cause of the fire appears suspicious so Cobourg Police and the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office are involved in the investigation.
The owner of Beyond The Blue Box Thrift Store says while the fire is devastating, it’s a setback not the end.
Located on Covert Street in Cobourg, Beyond the Blue Box Thrift Store is in its 31st year of operations. It bills itself as one of Canada’s longest standing and most successful community based waste reduction and reuse centres.
