Northumberland County says during this postal service interruption, residents can take advantage of online and in-person options to manage essential services and avoid delays.
Ontario Works (OW) recipients who typically receive cheques by mail will need to pick them up in person at the Northumberland County Headquarters, located at 555 Courthouse Road in Cobourg, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. weekdays. OW clients receiving direct deposit or Reloadable Payment Card (RPC) payments won’t be affected. Northumberland County will require identification for cheque pickups, and individuals can authorize others to collect payments on their behalf by providing signed consent and ID.
Residents can access alternative services, including paying fines and purchasing waste bag tags, at designated in-person locations or online at Northumberland.ca.
Other programs, such as the Child Care Fee Subsidy, have set up online and in-person options for document submissions.
County officials emphasize that residents are still responsible for paying recent invoices, regardless of mail delays.
