The Haliburton Kawartha Peterborough Northumberland (HKPN) Board of Health held its inaugural meeting on January 2, 2025, marking the start of its new term.
Deputy Mayor Ron Black of Selwyn Township was elected Chair, while Deputy Mayor Cecil Ryall of Highlands East was named Vice-Chair.
During the meeting, the board approved essential by-laws and finalized committee appointments. Members of the Indigenous Health Advisory Circle (IHAC) include Mayor John Logel of Northumberland County, Councillor Kathryn Wilson of Hiawatha First Nation, and representatives from community organizations such as Trent University and the Métis Nation of Ontario. The IHAC will focus on strengthening Indigenous health initiatives in the region.
The Stewardship Committee appointments include Deputy Mayor Cecil Ryall, Deputy Mayor Ron Black, and several provincial appointees. These committees play a vital role in guiding the board’s priorities and programs.
The 2025 meeting schedule was deferred to the next session, which will take place on January 16 at 2 p.m. in Lindsay, offering both in-person and hybrid attendance options.
The new board includes representatives from Northumberland, Peterborough, Haliburton, and Kawartha Lakes municipalities, as well as Indigenous members from Curve Lake and Hiawatha First Nations.
By focusing on collaborative leadership and community engagement, the HKPN Board of Health aims to address public health challenges and promote well-being across its jurisdiction.
