A Hamilton Township woman has been charged with impaired driving after police allege she registered more than three times the legal alcohol limit following a crash.
The incident began early Monday, Jan. 20, when Northumberland OPP said they responded to a single-vehicle collision on Dale Road, east of County Road 45. A grey pick-up truck had veered into the south ditch and hit a tree, causing minor injuries to the driver, reported OPP.
While officers investigated the crash, a second vehicle arrived. The driver claimed to know the pick-up’s operator, said police.
Officers suspected alcohol consumption and conducted a roadside screening test, which resulted in an alleged fail, said police. The individual was taken into custody and brought to a nearby police station for further testing, reported OPP.
Police said the driver, a 35-year old from the Township of Hamilton, was charged with impaired operation and operating with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 mg. The accused was released and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in March.
Police issued a 90-day licence suspension and impounded the vehicle for seven days.
