A 63-year-old prohibited driver from Hastings was arrested Friday morning after Northumberland OPP investigated an abandoned van on 9th Line West.
Police were notified about the white van in a ditch at approximately 10:10 a.m. The vehicle was traced to a Hastings resident, who was listed as a prohibited driver.
While en route to the accused’s residence, an officer’s in-car Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) system flagged a grey vehicle travelling in the opposite direction. The vehicle was also registered to the accused.
The officer conducted a traffic stop and confirmed he was driving the grey car. He was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with two counts of operation while prohibited.
Both the van and the grey vehicle were towed and impounded for 45 days.
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in February 2025.
