Cameco says it’s taking a measured approach the tariff spat between Canada and the United States.
The company which has uranium fuel manufacturing and conversion facilities in Cobourg and Port Hope says Canada and the U.S., have a long-established, positive commercial relationship in the civilian nuclear sector. The company says that association has spurred economic growth while increasing energy security and national security.
Citing the U.S.’s need for a secure western supply of nuclear fuel to generate electricity to meet increased power demand, Cameco says nuclear goods and services must move smoothly north to south.
On Monday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced he and President Donald Trump agreed to pause tariffs for at least 30 days.
Tariffs of 25 per cent on most exported goods and 10 per cent on energy were originally set to begin on Tuesday.
