This year will mark the first time this nationwide event will be hosted in Cobourg on February 22.
The Coldest Night of the Year (CNOY) is a “winterrific” family-friendly fundraising walk in support of local charities. Each year in February, tens of thousands of Canadians step outside the warmth and comfort of their homes to shine a light of welcome and compassion in their communities. Since 2011, CNOY has raised over $75,000,000 across Canada in 190 Canadian communities with 100 per cent of net proceeds staying local.
In Cobourg, the route begins and ends at the Church on the Hill on Courthouse Road in Cobourg with a 4 pm check in and walkers heading out at 5 pm. Both a 2 km and a 5 km route are available.
Hope and Light Urban Outreach, serving the marginalized community in Cobourg, will be the beneficiary of proceeds from the event.
We spoke with Hope and Light’s Leigh-Ann Davidson who tells us about the challenge of running the event for the first time.
Hope and Light Urban Outreach will use funds raised to support the ‘Loaves of Love’ food security program that provides access to healthy meals. Their team provides & serves meals both in partnership with community agencies & through boots-on-the ground outreach each week.
Davidson tells us more about the programs your participation will benefit.
Davidson shared they’ve recently started a new initiative with one of their community partners, a ‘creating space’ Art workshop drop in, where people can connect in a different way within the marginalized community in Cobourg.
Building community partnerships is a key focus for Hope & Light. Recognizing the complexity of the needs of the street-affiliated population, they provide a consistent presence of care and support to help individuals move toward sustainable living and wellness. Building trusted relationship that “change the tune!”
Davidson says, everyone is welcome to join them on Saturday.
So join in on Saturday for the Coldest Night of the Year to walk and fundraise with Hope & Light to serve those experiencing homelessness.
