The Municipality of Port Hope says it’s keeping a close eye on another predicted storm anticipated to hit the region Wednesday, April 2.
As reported earlier Tuesday, April 1, Environment Canada has issued rainfall and freezing rain warnings for the Northumberland region, following its previously issued special weather statement.
Municipal officials have said the heavy rain and potential freezing rain – particularly in the northern areas of the community – could further impact areas continuing to experience power outages and limited cell and internet services following the weekend ice storm.
Municipal staff are encouraging residents to be prepared for emergencies and ensure they have adequate supplies, such as water, food, flashlights and batteries.
Port Hope has more emergency preparedness tips and resources available online.
For residents still without power, municipal staff will be at Fire Station No. 3 on Wednesday, April 2 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., ensuring people have access to water, a warm space, and the ability to charge devices. The Town Park Rec Centre, Jack Burger Sports Complex and Fire Station No. 1 are also options for these services.
“We will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as more information becomes available,” said municipal staff, while encouraging residents to stay informed through official municipal channels.
