If you’re wondering about where and when to catch Northumberland-Clarke candidates looking for your votes in the April 28 federal election, we’ve got you covered.
BRIGHTON:
The Gibbs have put together a debate for Thursday, April 10, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. at the King Edward Park Arena Community Centre (75 Elizabeth St.)
All seven candidates were invited to attend, noted organizers.
Joyce Cassin will be the moderator of the debate.
The event will give candidates time for introductions and answer some pre-selected questions, and written questions can also be submitted at the door and will be vetted for duplication.
COBOURG:
Blue Dot Northumberland, Community Power Northumberland and the Seniors Climate Action Now (SCAN) groups are teaming up to host an all-candidates election forum with a focus on economic sustainability and environmental protection, saying “our survival depends on it.”
The forum is set for Tuesday, April 15 at the Cobourg Columbus Community Hall (232 Spencer St. E.) from 7 to 9 p.m.
Canadians will field questions on important local federal sustainability and environmental issues, as well as residents’ questions, said organizers.
Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for a meet-and-greet with candidates before the debate. Another half-hour (until 9:30 p.m.) will be allotted to talk with candidates following the forum.
The forum contact is Faye McFarlane, who is accessible at 905-342-2090 or fmcfarlane@live.ca.
PORT HOPE:
The Northumberland Central Chamber of Commerce, Port Hope and District Chamber of Commerce, and Clarington Board of Trade are teaming up to co-host a business-themed candidates meeting, with help from Northumberland 89.7 and the Central Lakes Association of Realtors.
Hosted at the Port Hope Lions Recreation Centre (29 Thomas St.) on Wednesday, April 16, the event will include a meet-and-greet with the candidates from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m., followed by a moderated question-and-answer session from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
The business community is encouraged to submit questions for the candidates. Organizers said the questions will be prioritized by an independent panel, with the goal of ensuring the most pressing business matters identified by area businesses are addressed.
Folks looking to submit a question need to email admin@porthopechamber.com by Friday, April 11 at noon.
The special guest moderator will be Wyatt Sharpe.
