Northumberland OPP say they’ve laid a manslaughter charge after the death of an inmate from Warkworth Institution.
In an update Thursday, April 10, 2025, police said one person had been arrested and charged following the death and their investigation, which started back in January.
According to OPP, on Jan. 3, 2025, police said they were advised of an incident resulting in an inmate being transported to a local hospital and later airlifted to another medical centre.
The 30-year-old from Toronto was later pronounced deceased, reported OPP.
As a result of the investigation, on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, police said Dylan Roberts, 25, of Loyalist Township, was arrested and charged with manslaughter – contrary to section 236(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
This charge has not been proven in court.
The accused was remanded into custody and will appear in Cobourg court at a later date, said police.
Police provided no other details, except that the investigation is being spearheaded by the Northumberland OPP crime unit under the direction of the OPP’s criminal investigation branch.
