Independent candidate Jody Ledgerwood is running in the Northumberland-Clarke riding for the April 28 federal election, saying she brings a personal and community-rooted platform to the campaign.
According to her bio, Ledgerwood was born in Cobourg and has raised three adult children. She is currently a small business owner and executive at a growing film production company in the GTA. Her professional experience spans industries such as hospitality, law, accounting, real estate, and entertainment.
Ledgerwood tells us more about her background and experience.
Ledgerwood says she’s been a longtime community volunteer and has spent decades supporting local initiatives. She served on school councils, helped build homes with Habitat for Humanity, and was actively involved in the Northumberland Players for 30 years both on stage and behind the scenes. She also coached and played team sports and served on the board of the Northumberland Hills Association of Realtors for eight years, including three as president.
We asked her what inspired her to run for MP.
According to Ledgerwood, the top three issues she sees in the riding are affordability, the loss of farmland and the Port Hope Area initiative and the possibility of a nuclear plant in Wesleyville.
On the topic of tariffs, she had this to say.
Her bio states that she has also participated in provincial and national real estate political action committees and contributed to successful lobbying efforts that she says brought real change to Canadian families. She was invited into the Ontario Real Estate Association’s mentorship program for future leaders.
If elected, we asked Ledgerwood what her first priority would be.
In 2023, Ledgerwood says she experienced a spiritual turning point, giving her life to Christ after years of personal reflection and faith exploration.
Ledgerwood says her campaign centres on practical solutions for housing, small business support, and community-driven decision-making, with an emphasis on transparency and accountability.
According to the independent candidate, her life experience, volunteer work and diverse career give her the tools to advocate effectively for the people of Northumberland-Clarke.
