The Municipality of Port Hope is once again offering free transit service on Routes A and B starting Monday, May 5, 2025, as Phase 3 of the Walton Street Reconstruction Project gets underway.
The fare suspension, which proved popular during the 2024 construction season, has been brought back to ease travel during ongoing construction. The ROLLS accessible transit service will also remain fare-free.
Mayor Olena Hankivsky said the move is part of the municipality’s ongoing commitment to “minimizing disruption, supporting downtown businesses, and offering environmentally friendly travel options.”
The Walton Street project is in its final phase, and the municipality is encouraging residents and visitors to park in designated municipal lots outside the core and use the free transit service to reach downtown shops, services and events.
Those who already purchased a monthly transit pass for May can save it for future use. Passes remain valid for use on Route C – the Cobourg Express Shuttle – which continues to operate with regular fares.
The municipality encourages everyone to make use of the free local service to support the local economy and reduce congestion in the construction zone.
