The Municipality of Port Hope has announced several temporary parking improvements in response to ongoing concerns from residents and businesses affected by the Walton Street reconstruction.
To help ease the burden, three new on-street spaces have been added along Brown Street, while free public parking is now available at the overflow lot at 74 Queen Street. For those directly impacted, permit-only spaces have been designated in the Cavan Street lot, with permits issued through the Municipality’s By-law staff.
Accessibility has also been prioritized. A converted accessible spot on John Street and a new space on Walton Street near Brewery Lane have been introduced. Scaffolding at 85 Walton Street is now complete, reopening nearby parking spaces to the public.
Extended-duration passes are also available for residents and businesses requiring longer-term access.
Officials are asking for continued cooperation during construction and encourage drivers to follow standard regulations, which remain fully enforceable. That includes restrictions on parking near hydrants, intersections, and in unpaid metered spaces.
Underused areas on South Street and Brown Street remain open and available for general parking.
The Municipality continues to collect community feedback to help shape future improvements. Residents can report concerns or offer suggestions at porthope.ca/report-an-issue, using the “All Things Walton” category.
Municipal staff thank the public for their patience as the reconstruction work continues.
