Cobourg and Port Hope police officers will hit the streets this Thursday (June 5) for the 2025 Law Enforcement Torch Run in support of Special Olympics Ontario.
Members from both services will be joined by Community Living & Respite Care Northumberland for a two-part run, bike, and walk event to raise awareness and funds for athletes with intellectual disabilities.
The Port Hope leg begins at 11 a.m. at the Port Hope Police station on Fox Road and finishes five kilometres later at the town’s Giant Tiger. The torch will then move to Cobourg, where the second leg kicks off at 12:15 p.m. from the Giant Tiger on Elgin Street. The group will head down King Street, ending at Community Living’s office on Cottesmore Avenue.
The public is invited to cheer safely from sidewalks and front lawns. Donations will be collected along the route and online throughout the month at letrontario.crowdchange.ca/70120.
To help raise more funds, both police services are also selling a limited-edition 2025 Torch Run coin for $20. Coins can be purchased at either police station while supplies last. This year’s design features both services’ cruisers.
The Law Enforcement Torch Run is a global initiative involving over 97,000 law enforcement members and is the “charity of choice” for the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police. Funds raised help support over 26,000 athletes in Ontario alone.
