Police are asking the public to avoid the area of Burnham Street and Westwood Drive as officers conduct an active investigation at the nearby rail crossing.
The Cobourg Police Service issued a public notice around 2:15 p.m. on Friday, stating that the crossing is closed and a visible police presence is expected to remain in place for several hours. No details have been released yet on the nature of the investigation, but police say an update will be provided when more information becomes available.
“Members of the Cobourg Police Service are currently on scene in the area of the rail crossing at Burnham Street and Westwood Drive in Cobourg conducting an active investigation,” the statement read. “It is expected that there will be a police presence for the next several hours and the rail crossing will be closed.”
Residents and drivers are urged to take alternate routes to avoid delays.
