For a century the Brighton Garden Club has been beautifying the community, planting trees, contributing to a healthier environment, and more.
And this weekend, the club plans to celebrate 100 years of service with a “garden party.”
Since 1925, the club has been encouraging residents to share in the love of gardening and interest and improvement in horticulture locally.
President Linda Wallis tells us more about the club’s 100th anniversary celebration.
There will also be guest speakers – such as garden expert and TV-radio personality Carson Arthur at 1:30 p.m. – and lots of other plant- and garden-inspired fun, including a tearoom, historical displays, a judged rose and peony show, prizes, and more, explains Wallis, adding that attendees can try their hand at nearby croquet and lawn bowling, with this club also marking 100 years.
The celebration is open to all and is set to light up Memorial Park from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Wallis tells us more about the club’s start a little more than a century ago now.
Over the years, you can find the club’s fingerprints on many projects locally – and today, the club continues to be incredibly active in the community, while also promoting learning through its regular meetings and rallying of guest speakers, shows, garden tours, and more, notes Wallis.
You can learn more about the club’s contributions – including from lifetime members who’ve served more than 50 years – at the celebration this Saturday.
The club also meets every fourth Tuesday of the month at the King Edward Park community centre.
