A 36-year-old Cobourg man is facing multiple charges after police responded to a reported assault and threats in the town’s downtown core early Sunday morning.
According to the Cobourg Police Service, officers were called to King Street on June 8, 2025, at approximately 12:40 a.m., after several victims reported that a man had approached them without provocation, began shouting death threats, and threw cans at them.
Police say they located a man nearby who matched the description provided by the victims. Following an investigation, the man was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon, two counts of uttering threats to cause death, and failure to comply with a release order.
During a search conducted as part of the arrest, officers also located a quantity of suspected fentanyl. As a result, the accused is also facing a charge of possession of a Schedule I substance.
The man, whose name was not released by police, was held in custody for a bail hearing.
Cobourg Police continue to investigate and are reminding residents that threatening behaviour and acts of violence will not be tolerated in the community.
