A Pickering resident is facing impaired driving charges and offences under the Highway Traffic Act after Northumberland OPP enforcement efforts, say police.
According to OPP, on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at about 12:50 a.m., police were conducting traffic enforcement on County Road 28 at Telephone Road. Officers reported observing a sedan approaching the intersection and that the vehicle did a U-turn in a clearly posted no U-turn area.
Officers ended up stopping the vehicle at the Hwy. 401 westbound on-ramp. Following a breath sample demand, the accused was taken into custody and transported to the Cobourg OPP detachment for further testing, reported OPP.
Through investigation, the individual was allegedly also found to be suspended from driving under the Highway Traffic Act, said police.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 25-year-old Pickering resident was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) under the Criminal Code of Canada. Under the HTA, the accused was additionally charged for driving while under suspension and disobeying the U-turn sign, reported OPP.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
The accused is set to appear in Cobourg court on Aug. 27, 2025.
