Cobourg Police Service says the second suspect wanted in a violent July assault has been taken into custody.
On July 15, 2025, at approximately 7:00 a.m., police were called to the area of Fisher Street and Kerr Street where two males dressed in dark clothing and wearing face coverings entered a wooded area and assaulted two individuals with bear spray and baseball bats. Through investigation, the Criminal Investigations Bureau confirmed the victims and suspects were known to each other, and their identities were established. One male was arrested on July 16.
The second suspect remained at large until Saturday, September 13, when members of the Port Hope and Cobourg Police Services, assisted by the Belleville Police Service K9 Unit, located and arrested 44-year-old Jason Robitaille of Cobourg at an apartment complex in Port Hope.
Robitaille is charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, disguise with intent, administering a noxious substance (bear spray), and five counts of failing to comply with a probation order. Police say that while at large, a further warrant was issued for Robitaille, leading to three additional counts of failing to comply with probation.
He is currently being held pending a bail hearing. Cobourg Police thanked the public, Port Hope Police Service and Belleville Police Service for their assistance in the investigation.
