A 63-year-old Cobourg man has been charged with possession of a Schedule I substance after being arrested during a foot patrol in the downtown area Thursday morning.
Police say that around 10:30 a.m. on October 9, an officer on patrol near McGill Street and King Street East observed a man smoking what was believed to be drugs. The man was arrested, and a quantity of suspected crystal methamphetamine was seized during the search.
As a result of the investigation, the accused was charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and later released on an undertaking, with a court appearance scheduled for November 19, 2025.
In a media release, the Cobourg Police Service noted that the accused has been a repeat offender. Since October 2024, the man has been arrested four times and faces a total of eight criminal charges. Police say they have had 28 interactions with him over the past year.
