From an impaired driving investigation involving child passengers to a report of a vehicle ending up on a lawn and damaging a property before fleeing, Northumberland OPP says it’s been a busy couple of days for police.
Here’s your latest OPP rundown:
On Nov. 21, 2025, at about 8:40 p.m., OPP said officers on patrol in the County Road 2 Township of Alnwick/Haldimand area were alerted by in-cruiser automated licence plate recognition (ALPR) technology about a pick-up truck displaying unattached plates.
After a traffic stop, an impaired driving investigation was initiated, resulting in an arrest and trip to the station for further testing, reported police.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 57-year-old Trenton resident was charged with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus,) having care or control of a vehicle with an open container of liquor, operating a vehicle without insurance, failure to surrender permit for motor vehicle, failure to display two plates, and using an unauthorized plate.
The accused is set to appear in Cobourg court in January.
On Nov. 22, 2025, at about 2:30 p.m., ALPR technology alerted officers to a vehicle linked to a suspended driver on Front Street South in the Municipality of Trent Hills, and police reportedly then confirmed the driver was prohibited and uninsured.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 45-year-old Trent Hills resident was charged with operation while prohibited, driving while under suspension, and driving without insurance.
In addition to a future court date in January, the accused had their vehicle impounded for 45 days, reported OPP.
In another incident on Nov. 22, 2025, at about 9:20 p.m., a Township of Hamilton resident reported a vehicle had driven across a lawn, causing property damage before leaving the scene.
After locating the driver, an impaired driving investigation was initiated, which led to an arrest and the accused transported to the detachment for further tests, said police.
As a result of the probe, police said a 26-year-old Cobourg resident was charged with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus,) failure to remain and failure to report an accident.
The accused is due in Cobourg court in January.
On Nov. 23, 2025, at about 6:45 p.m., OPP said police received a traffic complaint about a suspected impaired driver on Dominion Street in the Municipality of Trent Hills. Officers located the vehicle, which allegedly had several child passengers, and initiated an impaired driving investigation, resulting in an arrest and a trip to the station for further tests, reported police.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 42-year-old Lakefield resident was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus,) driving while under suspension and driving with liquor readily available.
The accused will appear in Cobourg court in January.
For all of the accused charged with impaired driving, they each had their licences suspended for 90 days, and the vehicles impounded for seven days, added police.
None of the charges in the above unrelated incidents have been proven in court.
