Cobourg is preparing to welcome 2026 with two free, family-friendly community celebrations, starting with First Night on New Year’s Eve at the Rotary Harbourfront Park outdoor rink.
Mayor Lucas Cleveland says First Night runs from 6 to 9 p.m. on December 31 and features outdoor skating, a live DJ, horse and wagon rides through the Christmas Magic light display, and fireworks over the harbour to cap off the evening.
The Albert Street washroom and lobby will be open during the event, providing a warm indoor space for skaters to don their blades. Cleveland says weather conditions are looking favourable this year after last winter’s cancellation.
Fireworks are scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. sharp, wrapping up the evening along Cobourg’s waterfront.
The celebrations continue into the new year with the Mayor’s Levee on Saturday, January 3, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Victoria Hall’s Concert Hall. The free event includes musical performances, children’s activities, snacks, and family entertainment.
Mayor Cleveland says both events highlight Cobourg’s strong sense of community and offer residents a welcoming way to celebrate together.
