Cobourg police say they’ve charged a former Catholic elementary school teacher after a historical sexual assault investigation, with allegations dating back to the early 90s.
In release issued Monday, Feb. 2, 2026, the Cobourg Police Service said on Dec. 16, 2025, members of its criminal investigations bureau initiated an investigation into allegations of a historical sexual assault against a young person involving a teacher at St. Michael Catholic Elementary School in Cobourg, occurring between 1992 and 1993.
On Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026, police said Jack Vollering, 80, was arrested and charged with sexual assault, sexual interference and sexual exploitation.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
The accused was initially held for a bail hearing and then released to a surety, reported police.
“The investigation is ongoing as there may be other victims,” police also said, while urging anyone with information to reach out to CPS at 905-372-6821 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers online or by calling at 1-800-222-8477.
The Cobourg Police Service is also reminding citizens that there is no statute of limitations for sexual offences and offenders can be prosecuted well after the date of the offence.
“Police encourage anyone who feels they may have been a victim of a sexual assault to come forward and report the incident to police.”
No other details were released.
