Police in Port Hope have made an arrest following a reported break and enter at a residential property.
According to the Port Hope Police Service, officers responded on February 2 to a report of a break and enter in progress at a home in the community. When police arrived, they located an adult male at the rear door of the residence. Officers confirmed no one was inside the home at the time of the incident.
Police say the accused was taken into custody at the scene without incident. Further investigation determined the man was bound by three active probation orders related to previous offences in the Peterborough area.
As a result, the accused was held for a bail hearing and was subsequently remanded into custody.
Police continue to encourage residents to report suspicious activity as soon as it is observed, noting that timely calls can help officers respond quickly and prevent further incidents.
No additional details regarding charges or court dates have been released at this time.
