Two zoning by-law amendment applications will be considered during statutory public meetings in Port Hope on Tuesday, February 10, offering residents an opportunity to learn more and provide input.
The first application is for the property at 7773 Longyear Lane. Submitted on behalf of Scott and Krystal Longyear, the proposal seeks to recognize a newer detached house on the property as the primary dwelling, while allowing the original house to remain as an additional residential unit. The land is currently zoned for agricultural and environmental uses, and a site-specific zoning amendment, along with adjustments to zoning standards, is required to permit the change.
The second application involves 39 Pine Street North, a property currently operating as a private high school and designated as a heritage site under the Ontario Heritage Act. The owner is proposing the construction of a five-storey student dormitory containing 28 rooms on the southern portion of the property. The existing school use would remain unchanged, but a site-specific zoning amendment is required to permit the dormitory.
Both applications are considered complete under the Planning Act and will be reviewed during public meetings starting at 5 p.m. at Town Hall, located at 56 Queen Street. The meetings are open to the public and will also be live-streamed for those who prefer to watch without providing comments.
More information on the applications is available through the Municipality of Port Hope’s planning department, either online or in person at the Municipal Development Team Office on Mill Street South. Residents who wish to be notified of the municipality’s decision must submit a written request directly to the municipality.
