Cobourg police say a Port Hope man is facing charges after allegedly fleeing from a traffic stop in late March.
Police say the incident happened March 29 in the Division Street area, where officers observed a vehicle with a broken headlight and a heavily damaged windshield.
Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but police allege the driver made a U turn and fled at high speed while turning off the vehicle’s lights.
Police say officers discontinued attempts to stop the vehicle due to public safety concerns but were able to identify the driver and obtain licence plate information.
On April 4, with assistance from Port Hope Police Service, officers arrested a 35 year old Port Hope man.
He has been charged with flight from a peace officer and dangerous operation.
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
Police say public safety remains a priority when dealing with incidents involving fleeing vehicles and remind drivers to comply with police when signalled to stop.
