Ontario Provincial Police are warning drivers to use caution as heavy rainfall continues to impact road conditions across central Ontario.
Police say wet roads, reduced visibility, and pooling water are creating hazardous conditions for motorists. In some areas, localized flooding, washouts, and debris are also being reported, particularly in rural communities where conditions can change quickly.
OPP say the ongoing rainfall is expected to continue over the coming days, increasing the likelihood of water accumulating on roadways and the potential for sudden road closures.
Drivers are being reminded to slow down, increase following distance, and ensure vehicle lights are turned on to improve visibility. Police also warn against driving through flooded areas, noting that water depth can be difficult to judge and may hide hazards.
Motorists are encouraged to check road conditions before travelling through services such as 511 and to monitor local weather updates.
OPP say planning ahead, choosing alternate routes, or delaying travel when conditions worsen can help reduce risks. Police add that taking simple precautions behind the wheel can make a significant difference in keeping drivers and passengers safe.
