Cobourg Deputy Mayor Nicole Beatty has announced her candidacy for mayor in the 2026 municipal election. The longtime resident says she is seeking the role after years of involvement in local government and the community.
Beatty has served on municipal advisory committees, was elected as a councillor in 2018, and has held the role of deputy mayor since 2022. She says her experience has included work on municipal budgets, long-term planning, and policy areas such as recreation and housing.
In announcing her candidacy, Beatty says she wants to focus on clear communication, collaboration, and decision-making grounded in community input. She says the role of mayor requires listening to residents and addressing challenges in a transparent way.
Her campaign is expected to focus on several key issues, including affordability and tax stability, housing options for families and seniors, and infrastructure planning to support growth. Beatty also points to community safety, economic development, and approaches to homelessness and mental health as areas of focus.
Beatty says she will officially file her nomination on May 1, with a full campaign platform to be released at that time.
