The Town of Cobourg is inviting residents interested in running in the 2026 municipal election to attend upcoming candidate information sessions.
Town officials say the sessions are designed to provide practical guidance for those considering a run for municipal office or registering as a third party advertiser. Topics will include nomination requirements, campaign rules, financial obligations, and compliance considerations.
The first session, hosted by the Town of Cobourg, will take place on April 30 at Venture13 on D’Arcy Street. The session will feature a “Municipal Government 101” presentation delivered by a municipal law expert, along with representatives from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing and local municipal staff. A virtual attendance option will also be available.
A second session will be held on May 14 at the Northumberland County Headquarters. This session will include a presentation from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing and provide an opportunity for attendees to connect with local municipal clerks. Information about the role of a county councillor will also be available.
Officials say the sessions are intended to help residents better understand the expectations and responsibilities associated with running for office before entering the election process.
