Cobourg police say St. Mary Catholic Secondary School was placed on hold and secure Monday morning following another report of threats, marking the third such incident at the school in the past week.
Officials say that the scene has been cleared and they believe this to be another incidence of swatting.
Police say officers responded at about 10 a.m. after receiving a report of threats. The school was placed on hold and secure while officers conducted a search of the building.
Investigators say nothing suspicious was located and police have determined there are no immediate threats to the school. No physical injuries were reported.
The investigation remains ongoing, and police say the school would remain on hold and secure until further notice. Members of the public were asked to avoid the area while officers continued their work.
This latest incident follows two previous hold and secure situations at St. Mary Catholic Secondary School, along with a separate lockdown and suspected swatting incident at C.R. Gummow Public School.
Cobourg police have previously said recent false threat calls diverted emergency resources and created unnecessary risks for students, staff, and first responders.
Community safety and the recent school incidents are also expected to be discussed at this week’s Cobourg council meeting as concerns continue around repeated false reports and emergency responses at local schools.
