The Handbags for Hospice 2026 fundraiser has raised $163,000 in support of hospice services in Northumberland County.
Hosted April 9, the annual event brought together community members for an evening of fashion, entertainment, and fundraising in support of Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre.
Guests bid on more than 140 luxury handbags throughout the night, with additional fundraising support from guest auctioneer Layne “The Auctionista,” who helped drive bids and engage the crowd.
Organizers say the success of the event was made possible through strong community support and sponsorship, including presenting sponsor Jacqueline Pennington of ReMax Hallmark.
A significant portion of the total, more than $73,000, was raised through the Give a Gift from the Heart campaign, sponsored by local philanthropist Tony Pulla. Those funds will be used to enhance outdoor spaces for residents at Ed’s House.
Proceeds from the event will support a wide range of hospice services provided by Community Care Northumberland at no cost to clients and families.
These services include clinical navigation by registered nurses, supportive care counselling, advance care planning, pain and symptom management, volunteer visiting programs, and grief and bereavement support, as well as 24-7 end of life care at Ed’s House.
Community Care Northumberland CEO Jordan Prosper says the funds help ensure individuals and families receive compassionate, dignified care during some of life’s most difficult moments.
The event was hosted at the Best Western Plus Cobourg Inn and Convention Centre.
Organizers say the continued support from the community plays a vital role in sustaining hospice care services across Northumberland.
