Lower Trent Conservation is advising residents to remain cautious as high water conditions persist across the region.
A flood watch has been issued for the Trent River from Hastings to Trenton, with officials noting water levels remain elevated due to spring runoff, although they are gradually receding.
While conditions are improving, nuisance flooding remains possible in low lying areas, including roads, backyards, and basements. The advisory will remain in effect until May 15.
Residents are being urged to take precautions, including ensuring sump pumps are working properly and securing property such as docks and boats along riverbanks.
Lower Trent Conservation says strong currents, cold water temperatures, and unstable banks continue to pose safety risks. Parents and caregivers are reminded to keep children and pets away from waterways, and to avoid areas near dams, bridges, and culverts.
At the same time, a flood outlook has been issued for the Lake Ontario shoreline from Grafton to Quinte West.
Water levels have risen above seasonal averages, with levels near Cobourg sitting about 30 centimetres higher than normal for April.
Officials say additional increases are expected through May and June, with onshore winds potentially causing short term fluctuations, erosion, and localized flooding.
Residents along the shoreline are encouraged to secure personal property and be aware that permits are required for any shoreline work.
Lower Trent Conservation says it will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as needed.
